Eyebrows highlight the eyes and affect the over-all look of your face. By function, eyebrows prevent water, sweat and other debris from getting into your eyes, but adorning our eyes goes back as far as cosmetics. Ancient Egyptians are well known for their eye makeup and eyebrow enhancement. In many cultures, women have been known to modify their eyebrows in one way or another. Over history eyebrows have been pierced, colored, tattooed, tweezed, waxed, threaded, and shaved.
In the 1920’s, eyebrows were worn thin and straight. By 1930, they were still worn thinly but at an exaggerated height. The women of the 1940’s had eyebrows that tended to be a thicker natural shape with an arch above the pupil. Ladies of the 1950’s drew their eyebrows in thick and dark with an arch at the center. In the 60’s a shaved off and then thick penciled in look was popular. 1970 brought thick more natural looking brows with a round ball at the beginning of the nose. In the 80’s women grew their eyebrows thick and heavy, only to go back to a finer, softer look in the 90’s.
The conscientious is that a thinner eyebrow makes you look older, while thicker darker eyebrows promote a more youthful look. As of late, celebrities have been spotted on the red carpet and on the covers of magazines sporting thick, full eyebrows.
If you have tweezed your eyebrows too thin, like myself, you can achieve this trending look with a little patience and technique. I would start by visiting a local esthetician for “brow boot camp”. A professional can help you map out where your full fabulous eyebrows should be and advise you on a new routine for growing them in.
