For the last few years I have become obsessed with retro styling. All so elegant and simple-looking yet difficult to create the “old-fashioned way.” However stylists are constantly coming up with new ways to create these old styles and I would like to share my favorite the “Veronica Lake” or “S-shaped” waves. Simple, stunning and wearable for any occasion.
First: Start by creating a very deep side part. This creates a sexy and smoldering look.
Hint: The deeper the side part the better. Veronica Lake used to cover one eye with her hair.
Second: Start by curling the section right above your ear and curl everything toward your forehead.
Hint: Using a curling iron with a 1” barrel is my personal favorite but if you want a looser wave use a larger iron, or for a tighter wave a smaller barreled iron. Make sure all the hair is getting hot without burning the hair.
Third: Repeat step 2 going all the way around the head until everything is curled. It will look almost as if your hair has a Shirley Temple type curl.
Hint: Have all the curls facing the same direction so the wave pattern is fluid.
Fourth: Spray your entire head with a misty hair spray, such as Aveda’s Air Control and let that set for about 10 minutes.
Fifth: Once the hair has set and cooled in those curls, grab a wide tooth comb and comb through each section.
Sixth: Spray once again all over with hairspray when you are happy with the wave.
Hint: Add a spray on shine over to keep the hair looking shiny instead of a matte texture.
There you have a style that was easy to create and will leave you looking elegant and unforgettable.
