Another reason I was enticed by esthetics was makeup. I continue to be fascinated by the world of makeup. Despite the fact I love makeup and love putting it on, I initially had little to no confidence in my application skills before coming to the Institute. Now, after my education here and thanks to my instructors and a very talented classmate, I feel so much more competent and fluent in my knowledge of makeup. Now when I have a certain look in my head, I can easily translate it onto the face.
One of my favorite days in class was when we had a fantasy makeup challenge. All day, my class and I did each other’s makeup, ranging in looks from a vampire-inspired look to a full blown Gay pride unicorn! I think part of what made this day so fun was the fact that we all had gotten used to giving each other facials and nothing more and being presented with the opportunity to be more casual, talkative and creative, it was a really nice break from the norm. My classmate who did my makeup did a really amazing job; she went for a mermaid look and used fishnet to give me “scales” and she ended up winning the contest.
I really enjoyed seeing the creative sides of my peers. I think my classmates share my sentiment in that day being one of the best during the Estiology program.
