Before I chose to attend beauty school at Cinta Aveda, I had spent nearly a decade working in the animal field. During my career I worked in wildlife care; I assisted in a breeding program aimed at re-building the population of an endangered species, and I worked in education- spreading the message of conservation and environmental protection. I am proud to say that in choosing to begin a career with Aveda, I am continuing to make a positive impact in the natural world. In keeping with their mission, Aveda is a cruelty-free company: they do not test their products on animals. However, there are several beauty companies that are cruelty free; Aveda goes beyond cruelty-free product testing. The plant where Aveda manufactures their products has been labeled as a certified wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
Though I’ve worked with a variety of species, the majority of my time was spent working with birds, so I have a great appreciation for the work that Aveda does with Audubon– an organization that works to preserve all wildlife habitats, but with particular focus on birds. Aveda works with Audubon to provide nesting sites for wild birds living in the wildlife habitat of their manufacturing plant, and in the preservation of natural habitats in other places around the country. The beauty industry and protection of the natural world seem like two completely different entities, but Aveda has managed to make them work hand-in-hand- bringing a new meaning of “beauty” to the beauty industry.
