Buying a flat iron is not as easy as it may sound-especially when they come in all shapes and sizes and price ranges. So how do you know what to look for when shopping for one? I have listed some of the things you want to look for when shopping for a flat iron:
1) First check if the the plates are ceramic. Ceramic irons are less damaging to the hair and will help control frizz.
2) If you hair is really curly, you want look for narrow plates. The narrow plates will help you reach the difficult spots like around the hair lines, and closer to the scalp. The most common size is a 1-inch, which will get you as close as possible.
3) You also want to look for a flat iron with temperature control. Since not all the hair is the same, not all hair needs the highest temperature of heat to straighten. For fine hair, you want to start with a lower temperature, and for thicker and coarse hair you can go to a higher temp. But you need to find a flat iron that will allow you to control the temperature.
4) One more perk I like in a flat iron, is a turn-off timer. If you are the type of person that is always rushing out the door, make sure you find a flat iron that will automatically turn off when it is not in use for a certain amount of time.
Finding a good flat iron is tough and usually an investment, so make sure you research the ones available on the market to find your perfect flat iron.
